Successful machinery moves begin long before the forklift arrives.
Whether relocating a CNC machine, transformer, stamping press, generator, or other industrial equipment, careful planning helps improve safety, reduce delays, and protect valuable assets throughout the move.
Before any heavy lift begins, every project team should answer these five questions.
1. How much does the load actually weigh?
Accurate weight information is the starting point for selecting the proper equipment. Whenever possible, verify the weight from manufacturer documentation instead of relying on estimates.
2. Where is the load’s center of gravity?
Knowing the weight isn’t enough. The location of the center of gravity affects forklift capacity, stability, and the safest lifting method. Loads with uneven weight distribution often require additional planning.
3. What obstacles exist along the travel path?
Walk the route before moving equipment. Door openings, floor conditions, overhead obstructions, ramps, columns, and tight turns can all affect how the machinery should be transported.
4. Is the equipment properly configured?
The forklift should be matched to the application—not just the load weight. Fork length, mast configuration, attachments, lift height, and available maneuvering space all influence safe operation.
5. Does everyone understand the plan?
Before lifting begins, operators, riggers, spotters, and supervisors should review the sequence of events, communication methods, and individual responsibilities. Clear coordination helps reduce mistakes and improves efficiency.
At Royal Rig-N-Lift, we understand that successful projects depend on more than lifting capacity. Proper planning, experienced operators, and dependable equipment all contribute to safe, efficient machinery moves.
Whether you’re planning a single equipment relocation or a complete plant move, selecting the right forklift is an important part of the process.
If you’re evaluating equipment for an upcoming project, we’d be happy to discuss your application and recommend the right solution.
